Mum and Daughter share a kiss during outdoor family photoshoot in Pocklington

Hey I'm Jen- the face behind the camera

My Story

How it all started.....

I have always worked with children and their families but within healthcare and educational settings, being a Photographer wasn't something I envisioned for myself. However, as we all know life doesn't always go to plan. Unfortunately, I lost someone very close to me a number of years ago and it made me look at life completely differently.  I began to realise how fragile life could be and I started to rethink my entire career path.  Through experiencing firsthand profound grief and sadness, I started to notice and truly appreciate the beautiful, yet simple things in life. I really began to observe how my kids looked at the world. It gave me so much joy watching their faces light up when they discovered something for the first time or when they smiled so big that it used every muscle in their faces.  It was then I realised I wanted to capture those moments to remember them forever.

So I suppose thats when my photography journey began.  I invested in my first full frame camera, enrolled on a course and began to take LOTS of photos.  Creating to navigate my way through a difficult time has turned into a passion I can now share with you.

Family life  can often be chaotic and scrappy but there is something so beautiful in that.

TIME TO CONNECT

A little bit about me........

I AM A DEEP FEELER & CREATIVE THINKER

I love kitchen discos, loud music and singing (badly) in the car on my own. Music is good for the soul

I struggle to start my day without a coffee and this is often teamed with a cinnamon pastry of some sort (although I am told this isn't a very healthy option and I should try and kick this habit).

A windy walk by the sea, followed by a barbecue on the beach is my idea of the perfect day.

Like many mums my kids have a better social life than me, but when I'm not stood on the side of a football pitch or being 'mums taxi' you will find me plunging into cold water, chasing sunsets with my camera or enjoying a wine with friends.

My house is never quiet and I'm at my happiest when we have friends or family round for a good feed and a catch up. Sounds lovely, but trust me, it's always chaos!

My Style

Natural or Flash Lighting?

Natural light, there is no better lighting then during a beautiful sunset or the way light can completely transform an image when it hits just right.

Posed or Candid?

Candid all the way, I love watching and capturing natural connections between families.  I live in anticipation of the PERFECT shot that comes from when someone has just said something funny.

How do I get people to relax?

Connect-To create great images and capture true personalities it is so important to form a friendly and trusting connection.  My approach is gentle, intuitive and fun, I am always sensitive to the needs of everyone involved. I love getting to know my families and I am honoured when people let me into their bubble and I am genuinely interested in each families story.
